Popular Christian recording artist Kari Jobe is a supporter of My Hope America with Billy Graham and she’s one of the featured artists on an album to be released on October 15 by Capitol Christian Music Group titled: My Hope: Songs Inspired by the Message and Mission of Billy Graham. Simultaneously, Thomas Nelson Publishers will release Billy Graham’s latest book, The Reason for My Hope: Salvation. This project will coincide with the culmination of My Hope America.
We recently had the opportunity to ask Kari a few questions about her involvement in the project.
MH: Why did you decide to get onboard with the My Hope America project?
Kari: I’m so excited about My Hope America, and everything that’s being rallied around Dr. Billy Graham and this crusade. I am personally super-excited to invite my unsaved friends and family to come to my house. I’m going to join in, and participate in the My Hope project in my own home.
I’ve been impacted majorly by Dr. Billy Graham. My generation, my parents’ generation, my grandparents’ generation … his salvation message really impacted my whole family.
People are broken, and they are hurting. And, the answer for them to have hope is Jesus!
MH: My Hope America is built on a model of relationship evangelism. What are your thoughts on the importance and effectiveness of relationship evangelism?
Kari: If you know somebody and can relate to what they’re going through, it gives you the opportunity to talk about life and the things they are dealing with. You can say, “I know where you are, and I know what’s going on. It’s time for me to tell you that Jesus is the answer. The Cross is the answer. You need to give Christ an opportunity to give you His mercy and His grace. You’ll have hope.”
Talking to those you don’t know about Christ can work too, but I find it’s more effective if you know them and are walking in life with them, and out of that relationship, you can tell them about Jesus.
MH: Talk about your involvement with the My Hope America CD (My Hope: Songs Inspired by the Message and Mission of Billy Graham). What is the significance of the song you’ve written for the project?
Kari: I wanted to get on board with this music project. It’s a huge honor to be a part; to be able to write for this. The others involved in this project are precious friends of mine. Everyone is excited about what God is doing in the kingdom and in the church these days.
On the album, I sing a song called “The Cross is My Confession,” which I wrote with Matt Maher. What an amazing opportunity, to sit and write for this project, to wrap our minds around the message and the story of Dr. Billy Graham. Just his heart for salvation, his heart for people to receive Christ and to know the power of the cross.
We wrote from an old prayer, and made it work in a beautiful melodic way. I have used this prayer many times in my own life, confessing that the cross is enough for me. And, that Jesus’ blood is enough. He’s fought the enemy, he’s won and I have power over the enemy because of the cross. I’m loving this song already. It’s such a beautiful heart cry and prayer.
